Design Process...
We've split the design process into 6 easy steps:
1 - The Initial Consultation
The design process begins with an initial consultation where we discuss the venue and theme of your wedding and brainstorm ideas around the style, colour, fabric and details of your dress.
We capture this in the form of a mood board and encourage our clients to bring along magazine cuttings, photographs, fabrics or any design features which you would like to incorporate into your dream wedding gown.
2 - Design Evolution
Once we have identified the key themes for your wedding gown, we will create a range of design illustrations and sketches which we will develop based on your feedback.
Working together, we refine these ideas to create the final dress design.
3 - Measurements & Pattern Creation
After taking detailed body measurements we also discuss the choice of shoe and bridal lingerie as these can have an effect on how the wedding gown will fit and should be worn.
We use the body measurements to create a pattern for the chosen design.
4 - Toile & Prototype
The dress pattern is cut and used to create a toile or prototype of the final dress design.
This is constructed from Calico, a cotton-based fabric, and will be used for several fittings to refine the design and fit of the wedding gown.
The toile can be used to try out different elements of the design, for example the placement of embroidery or lace panels.
5 - Fitting & Refinements
For most dresses two or three fittings are performed at this stage, however a more complex design may require up to four fittings.
The toile is adjusted after each session to achieve the best fit and most elegant silhouette.
6 - Making the Dress
Once the design and fit has been perfected on the toile, the pattern is used to cut the fabric for the actual dress. A further fitting session is recommended before the final beadwork, trims and embellishments are applied.
All finishing touches are made and the gown is ready for a final fitting session - you'll then be ready to take your dress home, and finish the rest of your wedding preparations!
